Chrome Wheels/Rims

Posted by admin on Mar-25-2008 under Uncategorized

Chrome rims have to be cautiously chosen according to the type of vehicle. Any difference in the weight ratio affects the car’s performance. The weight of the chrome rims ought to be proportional to the vehicle’s weight. The maximum load rating of the rim must be well-matched with the vehicle it is used on. The holes for the lugs on the chrome rims must match the lugs on the vehicle’s tires.

Chrome rims are the most popular available rims today. A chrome wheel adds a touch of class to a car and provides the ultimate upgrade to any new or used car. Chrome rims can be installed either by exchanging or by plating the existing wheels with chrome or an existing wheel rim of the vehicle with it. The process of chrome plating is simple and easy. The wheels are cleaned to remove dirt and grime. The wheel surface is plated with copper and polished to make sure a smooth surface. A layer of nickel is then added followed by a layer of chromium, to form the shiny appearance.

Chrome rims are simple to clean and involve only an application of buffing and chrome polish.

They are also designed to suit other vehicles such as motorcycles. Rims made from cast aluminum can be transformed into chrome rims without any trouble. Many car owners also use custom designed rims and this improves the look of a vehicle. The size of the rim increases with the size of the car. Larger cars have rims that can go up to 27 inches and beyond.  Smaller cars have rims that are 13 inches in diameter. Increasing the size of the rim boosts the performance, as well as the look of the vehicle.

“Plus sizing” is a term that refers to increasing the size of the car rim in proportion to the wheel. A larger surface area of the wheel comes in contact with the road when the size of the rim is enlarged. So it gives the driver the capacity to handle corners more capably and with a better steering response. One of the popular car rims today is that includes spinners. These rims cause an optical illusion. The wheel looks as still spinning when a vehicle is stationary.  These wheels are designed to attract one’s attention. They don’t have any specific utility value, but are popular however. Chrome wheel rims are popular due to their shiny exterior. In the last decade, many other types of alloy rims have been introduced in the market.

Several things go into fitting the right wheel and tire combination on your vehicle.  Making sure you check with your vehicle manufacturer to find out every small detail about your vehicle is very very important.  It is important to know also exactly what type of wheels and tires you are putting on your car.

Wheels are determined whether they will fit a vehicle based on a few factors.  Those factors are the wheel diameter, the width, the offset, and finally the bolt pattern.  All of these factors are very important but some are more important initially when figuring out which wheels to get to fit your vehicle.  Other measurements will determine which type of tires you can put on the wheels.

The most important is the bolt pattern, you need the correct bolt pattern to fit the axel in your car.  This is very important and the wrong bolt pattern wheel will not fit on your car or truck.  For example, I have a Toyota Corolla and and  my bot pattern that my axels take is 4×100.  That means I will be needing a wheel and tire combination that also takes 4 lugs.  Some times some wheels might have 8 holes so that they can fit more than one type of vehicle bolt pattern.  Just make sure it is able to fit your vehicle for one of the fitments.
