When people buy new cars, the first thing they change is their wheels

and tires. It is the most economical way to make a big statement and to

make your car stand out from the crowd. There are a few things you have

to take into account, though, before you buy a wheel and tire

combination. If you don't do your research, you could waste a lot of

money on wheels and tires that don't fit your car.

Here are 5 things to look for when purchasing a set of wheels and tires.

1. Bolt Pattern

This is pretty basic. You have to buy a wheel that has the same bolt

pattern as your cars hub. You can change the bolt pattern by swapping

out hubs, but there is really no point to do this. The most popular

patterns are 4 lug and 5 lug.

2. Bore Size

The bore size is the size of the whole in the middle of your rim. You

should purchase a wheel that has a bore size as close as you can to the

factory size. This is necessary if you want your wheels to be hub

centric, and believe me, you do.

3. Hub Ring

If your bore size is just a bit larger than the hub on your car, you can

install a hub ring. A hub ring is basically a spacer or a shim that lets

the wheel sit flush with the hub and maintain a hub centric orientation.

4. Tire Type

There are a few different types of tires you can choose for your car. I

am going to go over summer, all season, high performance and drag radial

type tires.

Summer tires are what you see on most cars. These are just for general

driving, offer good grip, great wear, and all around reliability.

All season tires are more popular in places that have hot summers and

cold winters. They also offer good grip and wear, but also offer

improved wet and snow traction.

High performance tires are what you see on most tuned and high

performance cars. They offer great traction on dry roads, offer

acceptable wear, but not much else. These are mainly for driving fast.

Drag radials are not as popular as high performance tires, but they

serve a purpose. Drag radial tires are made from a special compound that

will become sticky when their temperature is raised (through burnouts).

They offer great traction fro drag racing, but are not that good for

cornering and handling. They also wear faster than other forms of tires

and cost more money.

You will have to make a decision on what kind of driving you will do

most often before deciding on what type of tire would be best for you.

5. Tire Speed Rating

A letter at the end of your tire code denotes the speed rating. So a

250/20 R 18 W would have a W speed rating. I have included a chart below

that denotes the tire ratings. This is not that important, because you

will be obeying the speed limit (wink) A S rated tire will do you just

fine. But if you plan on doing some "passionate" driving, choose your

tire speed rating accordingly. Here are the speed ratings. All figures

are in MPH

N = 87

P = 93 ?

Q = 99 ?

R = 106 ?

S = 112 ?

T = 118 ?

H = 130

V = 149 ?

W = 168 ?

Y = 186 ?

ZR = 149

If you take all of these factors into account before you buy a new set

of wheels and tires for your car, you will have no problem finding a

great deal on a great looking set of wheels and tires for your new car.

Wheels have a major part to play in your car, starting from the drivers and passenger’s safety to the performance level and appearance. An appropriate car wheel is very important for both safety and performance.

Car wheels regarding safety: -

When we know that we are travelling long distances often we check the tire pressure to avoid disasters. We keep a spare tire that can be used as a back- up. But at times people forget the basic requirements of the car. Every car has some basic requirements. The tires have to match the needs of your car but for some people this is just crap. For them style is important and often these people fix wheels that are customized and can be unsuitable for the car. This can mean that you are risking your life. This does not mean that you should give up on fashion aspects. Instead you should look for the wheels that meet the requirements of your car. And surely there are a wide variety of wheels that can match all necessary aspects.

Car wheels regarding technology; -

Lately the Honda Civic has included the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). If at all your car tire pressure is low immediately the driver car will be alerted as to which tire requires attention. This way safety level is increased and you can surely overcome a possible disaster. Tires that are used are adaptable to the changing conditions and this means that you can ride your vehicle in all climates, well almost all by just getting the right type of tires.

Car wheels to make a proper choice for your car: -

Many experts insist on fixing the same tires that you had first got when you bought the vehicle from the manufacturer. Surely this is an advisable fact, but this does not mean that you should not be upgrading your tires. There are many substitute tires that are available. They have both, safety and great performance levels. They are available with superior rims. Regarding these tires, you should be aware of its compatibility with your car. For this, you can approach an expert and take his/her opinion regarding new wheels that you want for your car.

If you consider the basic requirements of your car regarding wheels, then you need to be certain that you are safe in your car. As far as fashion is considered, you get alloy wheels in different patterns that can match your preference. So if you are looking for new car wheels make sure that you consider all the important factors.

Vertical doors are also called butterfly doors or dihedral doors. These are a type of door often used on high-class automobiles. The Mercedes -Benz SLR Mclaren,EXY-10,Enzo Ferrari, Toyota Sera,Mclaren F1,Saleen S7 and the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale , among others, use vertical doors. These doors take a lot of interest. When door open vertically, it gets the “butterfly” effect, making waves wherever it is. People stop and notice these types of modifications because they are exceptional, very attractive and rare. These door kits are now available for most cars, and come as a universal kit that can be fitted to almost any vehicle. Some of the kits will need a minute body work, but others are a direct bolt in.

This form of door was first introduced in the Alfa Romeo Carabo concept car, designed by Marcello Gandini .To solve a problem Marcello used the same doors in the Lamborghini Countach whose wide chassis mandated this curious door configuration. The Lamborghini had a very wide base, and a traditional door design would not allow for simple entering and exiting, especially if parked next to anything. Marcello designed a door hinge system that lifts the doors vertically and only slightly out war, clearing the door of the opening, and also allowing the wide body car to fit in traditional spaces. The design was carried forward to the Countach’s heir, the Lamborghini Diablo. The only present Lamborghini in production which uses this design is the Lamborghini Murcielago.Thats why vertical doors are called as Lamborghini door also.

Vertical doors are an immense addition to any show car. They come in manual and automatic varieties. Vertical Doors, Inc. is credited with the patent on the design people are most recognizable with. There are several companies that create similar products marketed under the product called vertical doors. They are also referred to as Lamborghini doors or 90 degree doors. This design unites some of the advantages of a conventional door and the traditional gullwing door. The door can open upward rather than outward, which is main in wide cars. The hinge is in a like location as a conventional door, so a convertible version of the car is not prevented by the door design. There are the traditional “vertical” doors which open vertically. These kits use specially made brackets and gas shocks to open the doors outward slightly, then upwards. They can be adjusted to open further before going up to make it easier to get in and out of.

Chrome rims have to be cautiously chosen according to the type of vehicle. Any difference in the weight ratio affects the car’s performance. The weight of the chrome rims ought to be proportional to the vehicle’s weight. The maximum load rating of the rim must be well-matched with the vehicle it is used on. The holes for the lugs on the chrome rims must match the lugs on the vehicle’s tires.

Chrome rims are the most popular available rims today. A chrome wheel adds a touch of class to a car and provides the ultimate upgrade to any new or used car. Chrome rims can be installed either by exchanging or by plating the existing wheels with chrome or an existing wheel rim of the vehicle with it. The process of chrome plating is simple and easy. The wheels are cleaned to remove dirt and grime. The wheel surface is plated with copper and polished to make sure a smooth surface. A layer of nickel is then added followed by a layer of chromium, to form the shiny appearance.

Chrome rims are simple to clean and involve only an application of buffing and chrome polish.

They are also designed to suit other vehicles such as motorcycles. Rims made from cast aluminum can be transformed into chrome rims without any trouble. Many car owners also use custom designed rims and this improves the look of a vehicle. The size of the rim increases with the size of the car. Larger cars have rims that can go up to 27 inches and beyond. Smaller cars have rims that are 13 inches in diameter. Increasing the size of the rim boosts the performance, as well as the look of the vehicle.

“Plus sizing” is a term that refers to increasing the size of the car rim in proportion to the wheel. A larger surface area of the wheel comes in contact with the road when the size of the rim is enlarged. So it gives the driver the capacity to handle corners more capably and with a better steering response. One of the popular car rims today is that includes spinners. These rims cause an optical illusion. The wheel looks as still spinning when a vehicle is stationary. These wheels are designed to attract one’s attention. They don’t have any specific utility value, but are popular however. Chrome wheel rims are popular due to their shiny exterior. In the last decade, many other types of alloy rims have been introduced in the market.

Several things go into fitting the right wheel and tire combination on your vehicle. Making sure you check with your vehicle manufacturer to find out every small detail about your vehicle is very very important. It is important to know also exactly what type of wheels and tires you are putting on your car.

Wheels are determined whether they will fit a vehicle based on a few factors. Those factors are the wheel diameter, the width, the offset, and finally the bolt pattern. All of these factors are very important but some are more important initially when figuring out which wheels to get to fit your vehicle. Other measurements will determine which type of tires you can put on the wheels.

The most important is the bolt pattern, you need the correct bolt pattern to fit the axel in your car. This is very important and the wrong bolt pattern wheel will not fit on your car or truck. For example, I have a Toyota Corolla and and my bot pattern that my axels take is 4×100. That means I will be needing a wheel and tire combination that also takes 4 lugs. Some times some wheels might have 8 holes so that they can fit more than one type of vehicle bolt pattern. Just make sure it is able to fit your vehicle for one of the fitments.

Tune in next time to learn more about how to fit the right wheels and tires on your vehicle.

Width is significant to assuring customer satisfaction and pleasure. Besides correct fitment, width of wheel and tire also influences handling and ride quality. Always choose a rim width within the range of the tire’s acceptable rim width specifications. A wider rim raises vehicular stability, steering response and cornering ability. A rule of thumb is to use a rim width 90% as wide as the tread width (not section width) of a performance tire for street applications. This provides an excellent balance between performance and ride quality. Always be sure that the chosen rim width is within the tire’s range of acceptable rim width specifications. A narrow rim would result in an improvement in ride quality, but may forgo the tire’s ultimate performance capabilities. A mid-range rim width provides a balance between handling capabilities and ride quality. An example of a proper application would be to use a 15″ x 6″ wheel for a 205/70VR15 tire. Never try to mix mill metric wheels and tires with standard inch wheels and tires. An improper application would be mounting a 200/60R390 size tire on any 15″ wheel.

Reading your tire’s sidewall is a must anytime tires are mounted on wheels. Always keep in mind that a proper and accurate size of the wheels and tires develop both the performance and look of your vehicle and your life depends on a few square inches of rubber when you drive your car or truck.
